## De quoi parle-t-on?

Cela fait plusieurs années, que je m’informe, et, étudie, avec soin, les questions climatiques, de pollutions engendrées par les technologies numériques, l’impact sur le vivant, et l’invariance des lois physiques face aux idéologies, croyances et dogmes.

Depuis le fameux rapport meadows, qui démontre, avec efficacité, que, dans un système de ressources finies, on ne peut vivre durablement sur un modèle de croissance exponentielle. Les dogmes de la croissance sont pourtant encore figures de pensée dominante.

I was in Amsterdam for an ElasticSearch training, and, as a matter of fact, on Thursday evening, there was a meeting about hacker communities with the very inspiring Mitch Altman, a hacker leading woman in Netherlands, and the journalist who wrote the book Hackers.

Discussion with the guests and the attendees was also interesting.

This highlights the great cultural contexts in hacker communities, the joy of learning, experimenting, sharing, helping, failing and starting again. I really feel this deep in me, and it relies on authentic experiences, social interactions, science, learning, passions.

I have started my own instance of mastodon…finally. I prepare this server to be a small size community (less than 100 users probably).

I need to prepare the policies, chart, etc… However I want to keep the numbers of users rather small because I don’t plan to grow much and prefer to focus on small groups of people, federating with others. Also, for moderation, I won’t have a lot of time to deal with, so clear rules and clear blocking when abuse occurs.

## Intro

When we mention social network, most users of Internet will think about Facebook, Twitter, TokTok, Instagram, SnapChat.

What is a social network? Human is a social being. We need to interact with other people. Communicating and sharing with a group of friends, friends of a group of friends, etc.. (reucrring function ;-). All of this feels so natural to us, such as with our family, coworkers, and so on…

## Intro

This article will only consider a short message service over ther Internet to build a social network. We assume private and high privacy is not required, so end-to-end encryption is not mandatory, users post public-oriented messages. User accounts are not meant to be hidden, nor anonymous at all.

## Twitter model

Twitter is a proprietary and fully centralized model. Terms of service didn’t read is a nice web site that summarizes complex terms of service, most users never read and care about.
